Fear the Lord

Proverbs 3:7-8—Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.  This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.

“Do not be wise in your own eyes” is an explanation of what it means to lean on one’s own understanding from verse 5.

It means to regard our wisdom as better and greater than God’s wisdom.

To fear the Lord and depart from evil is the natural result of trusting God.

As we trust Him, we come to know Him better, leading to natural reverence and awe.

As we trust Him, we are drawn more to God and further from evil.

The resulting promise of fearing the Lord is it “will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.”

A life of surrender and trust in God has real benefits.

It gives a greater sense of peace and strength than we would have apart from God.

Trust and fear the Lord.  He cares for us.

In Christ,
Jonathan
