Love and Faithfulness

Proverbs 3:3-4—Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.  Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.

Solomon wisely told his son to keep God’s loyal love and faithfulness (truth) close, so close that it would be as if they were a necklace on him at all times and written “on the tablet of your heart.”

Matthew Poole wrote that “love and faithfulness” could be understood both as God’s love and faithfulness to us and as the love and faithfulness we are to show to others.

Both are important and should never be forsaken.

“Love” and “faithfulness” are joined together frequently in Scripture…this is not an accident.

Psalm 25:10 is a great reminder to us: “All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant.”

These words are familiar possibly because Solomon’s father, David, wrote them!

Solomon emphasizes the result of living in God’s love and faithfulness.

“Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.”

May the love and faithfulness of God lead us to show love and faithfulness to others.

In Christ,
Jonathan
