Lifted Up

Lifted Up

I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking him in his temple.  For he will conceal me in his shelter in the day of adversity; he will hide me under the cover of his tent; he will set me high on a rock. — Psalm 27:4-5

Whether David’s desire was to continually return to the sanctuary for worship or to simply live his life in God’s presence, his desire is constant fellowship with the Lord throughout his life.

In verse 5, David was sure of God’s protection.  He used the words “conceal” and “hide.”  This image is often connected with a mother bird hiding and protecting her young with her wings.

David felt the Lord’s protection.  His circumstances may have been dire, but his faith in God and His protection was firm.

David knew that because of God’s protection, God would give him victory over his enemies.

Victory over his enemies would cause David to break out in worship.

What victory has God provided for you?  He has made us victorious over sin and death through Jesus Christ!  These victories should cause us to worship him.  David said, “I will sing and make music to the Lord.”

God lifts us up even when the weight of the world is upon us.  I am reminded of 1 Peter 5:6, which says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the might hand of God, so that he may lift you up at the proper time.”

In Christ,
Jonathan
