God Fights for Us
God Fights for Us
Perhaps the most dramatic and famous scene in the life of Moses and the Israelites is the parting of the Red Sea.
In Exodus 14, the Israelites have fled from Egypt. God has hardened Pharaoh’s heart and Pharaoh pursued the Israelites. When the Egyptian army draws near, the Israelites “were terrified and cried out to the Lord for help” (v. 10).
The joyous deliverance of the Israelites quickly turned to complaining. They had lost sight from the goodness and power of God. Instead of trusting God, they blamed Moses for bringing them in the wilderness just to die.
Does this ring a bell with you? How many times have we found ourselves doubting God even after we have witnessed Him work time and time again?
We can’t really blame the Israelites. They’re humans just like the rest of us. But what happened next warrants our full attention.
Moses said powerfully in Exodus 14:13-14, “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and see the Lord’s salvation that he will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians you see today, you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you must be quiet.”
As disciples of Christ, let us remember that we are engaged in a spiritual battle. But we are not alone. God reminded Joshua to “be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
We need to stand still, do what is right, follow God’s commands, and surrender everything into His hands. You can always know that God never loses a battle. He always wins, and we reign victorious with him as long as we are on His side.
In Christ,
Jonathan
