Our Greatest Home

Our Greatest Home

“Home is where the heart is.”  “Home is where you hang your hat.”  These are just two of the sayings I remember about “home.”

Home is a very special place.  It’s where we feel the most comfortable.  It’s usually where we feel safe and loved.  I know that is not the case for everyone, but it is for me.  I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home.  I am still blessed to be able to go home, the place where my parents still live and where I was raised.

Most definitions of home refer to a dwelling place, and the same is true for believers.  The Bible is clear that, as believers in Christ, we are mere strangers and foreigners on the earth.

In John 14:2 Jesus promises us a new home, one that he has prepared for us.  Later in that same chapter, Jesus said, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word.  My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.”

This statement is echoed in Revelation 21, where the voice from the throne said, “Look, God’s dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them.  They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and be their God.”

Home is a special place.  As disciples of Christ, let’s remember that this earthly home is just temporary.  Our heavenly home with God is eternal.

If home is where the heart is, let our hearts be pointed heavenward, for that is our true home.

Looking forward to HOME,

Jonathan
