Wisdom and Tact

Wisdom and Tact

Daniel 2:14 (NIV) - When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact.

King Nebuchadnezzar was angry at his wise men because they could not interpret his dream. In his anger he decided to kill them. This included Daniel. The king sent his chief executioner, Arioch, to complete this assignment.

When Daniel spoke with Arioch, he spoke “with wisdom and tact”. Tact can also be translated as “good taste”.

We have already seen that Daniel was gracious. Now we see Daniel spoke with wisdom and good taste to Arioch, who was sent to execute Daniel and the other wise men.

Our words carry messages. If they are spoken in anger, they can cause far reaching damage. Let’s learn from Daniel to speak to others with wisdom and good taste.

I like this quote: “It is wiser to choose what you say than to say what you choose”.

Proverbs 12:18 (NIV) - Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.

My prayer for you today is that you are wise and tactful as you speak with others.

Expecting God’s Best,
Bro Rob
