Rainbows

Rainbows

Good Wednesday morning, church!

In Genesis 9:12-17, we read of a different kind of memorial.  The memorial is the rainbow, and it is a reminder that God would never again destroy the world by a flood.

In these verses, the rainbow is described as a token of the covenant.  The word “token” comes from a Hebrew word which means a signal, monument, or evidence of the covenant between God and all life on the earth.

In verses 14-16, God says that whenever He sees a rainbow, it will remind him of the covenant between him and every living creature on the earth.  Whenever we see it, it reminds us of His promise to never destroy all life with a flood again.

The book of Revelation takes this idea even further.  In Revelation 4, a rainbow surrounds the throne of God, reminding us of His covenant and reminding us of His eternal kingdom.

The rainbow is a memorial that reminds us that not only will God guarantee that there would never again be utter destruction through a flood, but also His kingdom will be established, and Christ will rule the nations.

When we see the rain clouds, let us also see the rainbow.  Let us be reminded that even when life is cloudy, God’s covenant still stands.  God’s kingdom is eternal.  When we place our faith in Christ, we have the assurance that we will live with him in eternity.

In Christ,

Jonathan
